ARTIST'S STATEMENT

The hardest part of painting is getting an idea that feels different and exciting. Photos taken on trips, or images in books and magazines sometimes work. Other times I move fast and let unconscious elements come through without too much filtering. Colors are alive and will often point to the next step.

Acrylics blend well and create luminous, saturated colors, especially when using florescent hues. They dry quickly and clean up easily, and I like everything about them.

The urban environment has always been home. The visual field in cities is compelling because permanent and impermanent features are endlessly stirring, changing and interacting. Putting paint on a blank canvas can have the same effect. Some images are blissful, some create a little anxiety. Anyhow, there’s a momentum inside that keeps them coming.
